Sergio Aranda is one of the best dancers that Málaga has ever produced. His dance follows a choreography but not in excess and his blood is full rhythm and grace, two fundamental elements of flamenco Barcelona dance.
Sergio Aranda excels in “bulería seguidilla” and “la bambera” flamenco Barcelona styles, when he is dancing, he teases the audience with his jacket like a bullfighter does with the bull. Everything in Sergio Aranda is flamenco Barcelona, he has a perfect sense of rhythm and a complete knowledge of the most styles of this art.
Tall and slim, his long hair hits the air with strong intensity when he performs and his dance brings back with him old school images sprinkled with a touch of young magic.
When he was only 11 he started his education at the Conservatorio Profesional de Danza de Málaga. Shortly after he was 17 he was selected to participate in the first Bienal de Flamenco de Málaga in 2005 entitled “Málaga Flamenca” which was celebrated at Teatro Miguel de Cervantes of Málaga. During that time he also performed at the best theatres of Andalusia, where Sergio revealed himself as a promising dance star.
The crop of successes achieved in Andalusia made his career take off and allowed him to act in the best scenarios of Spain. Once the national geography was conquered, Sergio started to look to the world and he dazzled the audience of many important festivals of countries like Sweden, Shanghai, Chicago, Colombia, Miami, Austria, Germany, Italy, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, Algeria or Memphis, among others.
We are now in 2006, Sergio Aranda represents the essence of the most characteristic flamenco Barcelona palos (flamenco styles) of his home in Barcelona, Londres and New York. This year he also wins the first prize in the XVII Concurso Nacional de Baila de Ronda “Aniya la Gitana” and this achievement brings him the opportunity to participate in the Festival Flamenco de Ronda.
Two years later, he creates the show entitled “Málaga baila, Sevilla canta” alongside Isabel Fallos. The premiere was in the Teatro Alameda de Málaga and he obtained a great success. In 2009 Sergio starts to produce his first show “Pasito a Pasito”, a representation of his own life where he reflects his short but intense career devoted to flamenco Barcelona.
His last work “Enjunda Flamenca” was presented in the Festival Flamenco de Riversaltes, in France. The audience of Málaga could see the show in the IV Edición de la Bienal de Arte Flamenco de Málaga, at Auditorio Edgar Neville.
The talent and dedication of Sergio Aranda have brought him to perform in countless festivals and theatres all over Spain and all over the world. The complete performances list would be too long but we can highlight some of them: El Festival de Nou Barris de Barcelona, the Cumbre Flamenca de Madrid, the Festival World Music de Shanghai, el Festival Suma Flamenca en el Teatro Albéniz de Madrid, el Festival flamenco Barcelona en San Pedro del Pinatar de Murcia (2006), the tour around Netherlands with the show “Destemplao” of María Juncal (2008), the Festival Internacional de Flamenco de Berlín or the tour around Canada and USA alongside the Disney musical “The Lion King” in 2011.
His love for flamenco Barcelona and the experience obtained through the years have brought him to give many classes and courses of flamenco Barcelona to the new generations. Sergio Aranda has shared his knowledge and his arte with many students of different schools like the Escuela de Flamenco de “La Tañi”, in Barcelona, and the Centro de Arte Flamenco y Danza Española Amor de Dios, in Madrid. He has also been a great driving force for flamenco Barcelona outside our frontiers and he has brought flamenco to distant lands such as Carlota Santa School (New York) or Iberian School of Tokyo. He has also given several master classes in USA (Chicago, Los Ángeles, New York, Las Vegas, etc.).
